SHIPBOARD OPERATION FOR DECK RATINGS


Course Description:

This course on shipboard operations for deck ratings covers the comprehensive competencies required or expected from deck ratings working on board commercial vessels serving the international trade. The modules enumerated below shall be given appropriate time allocation both for lecture or theoretical preparation and for practical application of the competencies.

The specific shipboard operational activities identified in this course shall prepare the trainees to perform and deliver the necessary skills and competencies needed for the safe operation of the vessel and for the protection of the marine environment as well. The module will touch on ship’s maintenance such as Carpentry and Plumbing; Welding and Gas Cutting; Staging and Rigging; Paint Works, Types and Application.  It will also deal with Cargo Works like Pump man’s duties; Rope and Wire Rope Splicing.  In addition to that, the course briefly introduces the basics of anchor handling.

Candidates: Open for deck cadet, deck officer, ordinary seaman, A/B. with a minimum numbers of                      (3) participants and with a maximum numbers of (20) participants.
