SHIPBOARD PAINTING AND SURFACE PREPARATION


Course Description:

This course on shipboard painting and surface preparation covers the comprehensive competencies required or expected from the seafarer working on board commercial vessels serving the international trade. The modules enumerated below shall be given appropriate time allocation both for lecture or theoretical preparation and for practical application of the competencies.

The specific shipboard painting and surface activities identified in this course shall prepare the trainees to perform and deliver the necessary skills and competencies needed for the safe operation of vessel and for the protection of marine environment as well. The module will touch on ship’s maintenance such as Safety and Hazards; Introduction to corrosion; Types of Paints and their Properties, Mixing Paints.  It will also deal on how to prepare the surface of the metal.  In addition to that, the course teaches proper procedure on applying paint and how to evaluate the paint jobs.

Candidates: Open for all deck personnel. with a minimum numbers of (5) participants and with a                      maximum numbers of (20) participants.
